Colchester is located on the banks of the Sundays River, which is a 30 minutes drive from Port Elizabeth. Colchester is right next to the Alexandria Dunefield with unspoilt sand dunes that date back about 100 000 years. Colchester is a little town which is named after the oldest town in England.
The Sundays River runs over 250 km and its' natural habitat is enjoyed by both residents and national and international visitors alike. The town is at the doorstep of the world renowned Addo Elephant National Park, South Gate Entrance, which is a safe gateway for its visitors to head up through the park to the Main camp, while spotting a variety of animals on the way. Another route available for cyclists is the route from Colchester to Coega on the N2 which is about a 20 km distance. 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship
The city of Port Elizabeth, also known as Nelson Mandela Bay, is the host of the world renowned Ironman Event. The city offers a quiet beachside town and variety of activities for the athletes and their families in its surrounding areas. The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship event expects to attract more than 6,000 athletes from over 100 global qualifying events in locations such as Australia, China, Spain, South Africa and the Americas.
SWIM: The Ironman athlete begins with a 1.9 km swim along the Hobie Beach and Kings Beach. The sea offers a decent temperature for the athletes and is often suitably calm. BIKE: The following activity is the 90 km bike course. The route exhibits both the city life and coastline of Port Elizabeth through Seaview and Marine Drive. RUN: The final third of the race includes the 21.1 km run along Marine drive and allows the athletes to be up close to more than 70 000 fans cheering them on until the final second. This race is not just an ordinary challenge and it can be easily said that once you have completed it, you are a true IRONMAN! |
